This is where Registered Communication Distribution Designers step in. Registered Communication Distribution Designers (RCDD) specialize in the design, integration, and implementation of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), related designs and designing cabling systems for new buildings or changes to existing infrastructure.

It is a credential awarded to individuals who successfully pass the RCDD exam and demonstrate knowledge in developing, integrating, and implementing telecommunications and data communications technology systems and infrastructures.

RCDD is an internationally recognized certification that's been around since 1984 and the exam has only been passed by about 7,500 people worldwide

 

Q2. What qualifications do I need to take the RCDD exam?

As the RCDD is one of the highest design credentials in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry, it comes with a 'years-in-service' requirement. An RCDD must have at least five years of ICT design experience or an equivalent combination of experience, approved education, and industry certifications

Q6. How long is an RCDD certification valid? 

You will receive certified RCDD credentials valid for three years after successfully passing your exam.

 

Q7. How can someone renew their RCDD certification?

To recertify, you must earn at least 45 continuing education units (CEUs) over three years from your test date. You can achieve these CEUs through The Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) or any other authorized professional association or ICT training program. 

In addition to the 45 CEUs, you must attend at least 1 BICSI-approved conference within three years of your test or last recertification. BICSI hosts various conferences worldwide, providing an excellent opportunity for RCDDs to network and learn while gaining new inspiration and ideas.

Preparing for the big exam involves familiarizing yourself with the Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) regulations and the Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM). Most RCDDs will spend hundreds of hours studying the TDMM and sit through numerous ICT fundamentals and design courses to prepare for the exam. Once you have completed your required courses and have gained relevant experience, you can apply for your RCDD certification.
